Try Different Backgammon Board Games

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

There are many types of backgammon board games played around the world today and for any long time backgammon players out there these different variants can really be a lot of fun.  I first figured this out when I was in Russia and learned about Russian backgammon which has a slight variant of starting with all of your checkers off the board and then bearing them in.  However, once I learned about that I looked into it to find out what other types of backgammon board games are out there.  It turns out that there are backgammon variants that go beyond even simple rule changes to having slightly altered boards.

Now it shouldn’t be too surprising since backgammon has been around for a long time.  But it is interesting to learn about and it actually can make for a fun new playing experience.  Internet backgammon has picked up on this lately and begun offering some of the different rule variants.   I’ve even heard there are sites that offer different backgammon board games with altered boards.  I haven’t seen that yet but I’m keeping an eye out for any; it would be pretty cool to play a backgammon board from like 500 years ago.

Regardless if your content with traditional backgammon or not, checking out the different types of backgammon board games is a good idea.  For one it’s nice to change things up and take a break from competition once in a while just to have fun, but, also, you might just end up finding a style that you really like.
